Yesterday was National Poetry Day. I set the challenge to read as many poems as we could, in our classes, and the children have read over 200 poems as a school! We have loved sharing poems that are short, long, that match our units and that are our teachers favourites!
In school, we look at poetry across our curriculum. We also have poems in our story boxes! We share a poem at least once a week as part of a story sharing before home time and we have poetry books available in our library. In the library, the children can also find out teachers favourites.
We are working very hard on raising the profile of poetry and the children are loving it!
We are launching, within the next week, ‘Poetry Bags’. Each class has got a poetry book, going home book and a bag. This will be sent home with one child and you will be able to keep the pack for a week. We would love you to share as many as you can at home! Enjoy the poetry as a family. See if you can find a family favourite!
