A high-quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. The teaching should enable pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing.’ (National Curriculum 2014 – Appendix A)

At St Edward’s we use the Language Angels scheme of work and resources to offer a relevant, broad, and ambitious foreign languages curriculum that will inspire and excite our pupils using a wide variety of topics and themes. We aim to encourage children’s confidence and creative skills through the teaching of French. We aim to embed the skills of listening, speaking and reading skills necessary to enable children to use and apply their French learning in a variety of contexts and lay the foundations for future language learning as they continue their learning journey at middle school and beyond.

We want all pupils to develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity about foreign languages.  Learning French will also offer pupils the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of other cultures and the world around them with a better awareness of self, others and cultural differences.
