At St Edward’s, teachers develop pupils’ spoken language, writing and vocabulary as integral aspects of the teaching of a broad and balanced curriculum. High quality teaching and learning in English enables our pupils to speak and write fluently so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions to others.
Writing is taught with the aim of fostering a love of the subject through delivering lessons that are centred around high–quality texts that our pupils are enthused about. These texts may also be used in our Shared Reading lessons and linked to Foundation Subjects.
We aim for the teaching of English to encourage our pupils to be excited by words and the writing process. Throughout a unit of writing, our pupils are immersed into the key texts, enjoy crafting a writing outcome and become hungry for words. Our teaching of writing will continue to develop, innovate and evolve in order to successfully develop our pupils’ knowledge and understanding to ensure they are equipped with sufficient skills for their future learning.
