As a Christian school, ‘courageous advocacy’, is something which we try to we instil in our whole school community, including our children. Being a courageous advocate enables everyone to develop a greater awareness of the challenges others face in life and the role that they we play as individuals to support causes and make a difference. It also enables us to appreciate what we have whilst also reflecting upon why change is necessary to challenge injustice and inequality and how we can support initiatives and have a positive impact both locally and globally.
Supporting different charities has been part of the way of life at our school for many years and we have been involved in many fund raising events including:
- Poppy Appeal
- Children in Need
- Wear it Pink day
Our Charitable projects
We have also enabled our children, parents and staff to have regular opportunities for and access to local charitable projects including;
Our ongoing support for the local Leek foodbank – We have a basket in our entrance. If you are at school please feel free to pop a non-perishable item in the basket.
Haregate community fresh fruit and vegetable appeal – This coincided with our Harvest Festival. All children brought in a piece of fresh fruit. We placed them at the Altar in church and then they were distributed to vulnerable families in Leek.
Other School Projects
Our ECO Council has been responsible for reducing paper and energy consumption in school. We are happy to announce that all classes have become energy efficient - switching off lights and computers when not in class. There is also less paper waste in school and wherever possible paper is recycled either in class or in our recycling bins which are collected by the local council.
This year the focus of the ECO Council is to help us to reduce plastic waste and car emissions within our local area.
As part of this we are:
- Creating a recycled plastic piece of art to go to ‘The Leek Neighbourhood Art Project’
- Taking part in WOW – Walk Once a Week.
- Reducing the use of plastic in school and,
- Litter picking in our local area.
